The American Academy of Dermatology estimates that there are 10 to 40 moles on the average person. The majority of these moles are benign. Even so, there are people that opt to have one or more moles removed from their face or hands for cosmetic reasons.

An established mole that starts to change color or increase in size can be an early symptom of the skin cancer known as melanoma. If a mole starts to develop a ring around it, you should have it checked out as soon as possible.
Mole that are in hard to see locations like your back, the back of your neck, shoulders and legs, should be monitored by a close friend or loved one.
